Five ways to save on Health insurance...
1. Drop the Supplemental Accident Benefit
On most major medical insurance policies this benefit is optional. It cover's the first $1,000 to $1,500 (depending on the carrier) of an accidental injury. Without this coverage you would have to pay your deductible before coverage is available but the savings can be as high as $35 a month!
2. Switch to a plan with a higher deductible
The old idea that medical insurance should cover every medical incident is over. Many carriers provide plans now a day's with high deductibles. This in turn will lower your monthly premium. In most cases these high deductible plans don't have a co-pay option for doctor visits and perscriptions, but they offer a lower out-of-pocket maximum. The new trend is to have a single family deductible and then everyone is covered 100% after that deductible is met. These plans are excellent and the month premiums are cheap!
3. Change your benefit levels or network
Many carriers have plans that you can choose different deductibles for perscriptions, co-pay amounts, number of annual doctor visits or the number of doctors and hospitals that accept your plan. Working with the carrier to get a higher co-pay, or a higher Rx deductible can lower your monthly premium. Also check with the doctor's and hospital's you use the most and see if they accept a lower level of your plan. If so there is no need to pay for additional doctor's and hospital's that you'll never use. These can drastically reduce your monthly health insurance premiums and have little to no effect on you.
4. Reapply
This is probably the 1st step you want to take. Many carrier's allow you to send in a reapply form that they use to re-evaluate your situation. When you first sign on to a carrier you get the current new client rates. These are the cheapest rates available, when you are with your carrier for a few years and you're healthy, but your premiums keep rising, this is how to reset that. Most of the time if you don't qualify for a reapply rate your plan simply doesn't change. Check with one of our friendly benefit consultants to see if this is right for you.
5. Get a Smartreview of your existing plan
If all or any of these ideas sound good, but you don't know where to start or even want to spend the time, then let one of our Benefit Consultants do the work for you. We can usually find a plan that meets your needs and has a better premium. Our agents are available to assist you, just complete the form above for a no obligations rate comparison!

Select health insurance (IHC)...
Select health insurance has one of the biggest networks of doctors and hospitals in Utah. About 60% of the prospects that come through cheapinsuranceutah.com go with selecthealth. They are a great traditional insurance company that provides excellent coverage with a standard HMO plan. They have low deductibles and co-pays with most of their plans. They also have three networks to choose from that include select value, select med plus and select care. Most clients choose the select med network as there are very few doctors and hospitals that do not accept this insurance.
Select health offers great kids health insurance coverage. There plans for kids can get you the best network, a deductible as low as $150 and all this for around $100 a month. Now this also includes co-pays of $20 per visit at the doctor and that is a heck of a deal. To get a rate comparison for your kids health insurance complete the form above.
Select health has some of the best group coverage in Utah. If you're a small business with under 100 employee's they can usually provide you with the coverage your employee's want at a reasonable price. Select health also works with a large nationwide network for those utah companies that have employee's out of Utah that need coverage. They can select a ppo network in their area and coverage will be provided through there.

Group or Individual Healthcare Insurance...
Anytime you can get group health insurance you will be far better off. Individual coverage is decent and will cover you good. There are a few down sides to insuring individual and not through a group. Underwriting is very tough. Most of the time it's either "pass" or "fail." They can deny you coverage based on pre-existing conditions. Another major difference is the maternity coverage, which is a big deal in Utah with how many kids Utahn's have. Most carriers have a deductible of $5,000 to $7,500 for maternity on an individual plan. Now this is better than nothing but group coverage can provide much more comprehensive coverage.
Group health insurance only requires a minimum of two individuals that aren't married to form a group. Individuals and family's in groups cannot be denied coverage. However, they can be surcharged if there are substantial preexisting conditions in the group, up to 85% of the base rate comparison pricing. As for the coverage, it's great! On most major medical plans through group the maternity coverage is treated as a regular sickness. This means that if your deductible is $500, then that's what it is for maternity. There are many other perks to group over individual coverage. If you'd like to see if you can qualify for a group health plan get a rate comparison and a friendly local agent will get you the info you need.
We can still get you connected with great individual and family plans. Our agents work with over 10 carriers to provide excellent service and pricing. Get a rate comparison for yourself or family and start saving today, you'll be surprised at what coverage you can get and the rate you'll get it for.

Congress PASSED the Healthcare bill, what does that mean for you...
Now that the bill has passed and the public can start to get a glimpse of what is in this ridiculously huge bill, we want to keep you informed and help you navigate through this.
So taxes will start immediately and the full spectrum of “benefits” will not begin for another four years. Any family that is making over $88,000 a year and elects NOT to purchase health insurance will be taxed; they cannot be taxed any more than the average premium that the health insurance policy would have cost them in their area. If you make under $88,000 a year there will be programs for premium supplement to help you pay for health insurance.
Pre-existing condition changes and acceptance- We actually have this program already here in Utah. There will be a High risk insurance pool set up (Already set up and working in Utah for many year and administered by Select health (IHC).) where anyone with pre-existing conditions can go to get healthcare insurance. This healthcare insurance is NOT cheap. The new bill might be able to help cover part of the premiums for this, but it still won’t be affordable to the average family.
This is just the surface of the bill and as time goes on and after it’s signed by Obama we’ll learn more. There are 37 US states that have mentioned they will sue the Federal Government for forcing US citizens to buy healthcare insurance and two have filed the paperwork to move forward with that process.
To make sure that you get the most affordable policy in Utah, let a local agent who knows the industry in and out get you a rate comparison from the top health insurance carriers here in Utah. Simply complete a rate comparison and see how much you could be saving on your individual, family or group premiums.

How does a HMO and/or PPO health insurance plan work...
The Basics of a Health Plan
Health insurance plans can be confusing. Here we will explain how a plan works and what coverage's you should look for when purchasing a health insurance plan.
Each month you pay for health insurance, but do you really know what you're getting? Health insurance is really easy to understand once explained. There are all different kinds of plans out there including HMO, PPO, High deductible plans that qualify for HSA (Health Savings Accounts) and even supplemental coverage to help cover the gaps of a standard health insurance plan.
First we start with a standard HMO or PPO plan. These are the most common in Utah. There are many different coverage levels.
The Breakdown
We start with a co-pay, usually $25-$50. This is what you'd pay when you go to the doctor for a check-up or if you're sick.
Next we have our major medical deductible. Usually this is split per person then per family. If you go to the hospital or have an accident you are responsible for this amount before the insurance carrier will cover any benefits. Most HMO and PPO plans have $500 or $1,000 major medical deductibles.
After the deductible the insurance carrier splits the bill with the insured, this is called the co-insurance amount. In-network this split is usually 80% the insurance carrier and 20% the insured. Some carriers also have a 70% / 30% option.
You are responsible for this co-insurance amount up to your out of pocket maximum. This is also split on a per person then per family basis. This is the most you will have to pay if you have an accident or are confined to a hospital. Some carriers include the amount of your dedutible in this out-of-pocket maximum and others say you pay the deductible plus the out-of-pocket maximum.
Maternity insurance is different with each carrier. With an individual plan some carriers state that they will NOT cover the normal cost of delivery, while others have a separate deductible for maternity that can range from $5,000 to $7,500. Either way they are all pretty much saying that they will not cover maternity costs. The average cost to deliver a baby in the hospital is around $5,000 and normally no more than $12,000 if it's a c-section.

Know what you're getting and who's giving it to you...
Getting a plan is easy, but is it really the right plan for your needs. Each medical insurance carrier has benefits and disadvantages. This is why the agents in our network have to be qualified and represent multiple insurance carriers. This will give you the edge you need as a prospect to make sure that you needs are met, and that you aren't just fit into the company that the agent works with. As you look at different plans you'll want to consider the following details:
Does my family need to visit the doctor for regular check-ups and shots?
Is having a lower deductible or a lower monthly premium more important?
Can we save enough monthly to cover our deductible if we select a High Deductible Plan?
These are just a few questions you should ask yourself and family when looking for a health plan.
